PURPOSE:
“The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church”
Our unit of women but are small in number but strive to be mission oriented and to reach, in whatever form a wide range of ministries from the local level to the international projects. We do this with money, actual items and prayers. See below the many projects that we are currently or have recently supported.
UMCOR…the United Methodist Committee on Relief with flood buckets, school kits, health kits
Henry Fork Service Center (southern Virginia United Methodist mission) with used clothes, school supplies, labels4education and other items
School supplies for special children and local elementary
Our Troops
Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) with different events
Camp Rainbow (week-long camps for mentally challenged adults)
Food Banks
Missions through the Women’s Division of the United Methodist Church with our gifts of money
Cards and visits to Wesley’s Shut-Ins
Our unit is currently made up with two circles. The Happy Day Group that meets the first Wednesday of the month at the church at 11:30 AM with a bag lunch and a short program. Most of these ladies are 60+ but have a great time. The Agape Circle meets the third Tuesday of each month at different homes at 7:00 PM. These ladies are various ages and are active in the community. All women of the church are eligible to be members and are invited to attend at any of the UMW functions.
